- Owner-Builder Consulting – Want to build yourself? We’d love to help guide you through your exploration of natural building! We can provide design consultation, help run volunteer workshops/work parties, or provide hourly labor. Enabling owners who want to get their hands muddy is what we’re most excited to do!
Natural Building Services
- Strawbale Construction – Strawbales offer a super insulated, thick wall that offers superior moisture handling capabilities. They provide a home owner a range of design possibilities from a clean-line modern feel to sweeping organic curves. Properly detailed strawbale construction actually offers much higher fire resistance compared to typical conventional homes (rated as 2 hour fire walls vs. 30 minutes of ½” drywall construction!). Strawbale construction is code approved! Step inside any bale building and you’ll see that you have nothing to worry from the Big Bad Wolf.
- Clay and Lime Plastering – Clay and lime plasters are a perfect pair for strawbale and other natural type walls. They offer a beautiful, hand-made feel that just asks to be touched. A finish plaster can also be applied directly to drywall or over existing painted walls in conventional construction.
- Earthen Floors – So much more than a dirt floor! Earthen floors use clay, sand, and fiber to create a solid floor that is then soaked with a hardening oil, creating a durable and beautiful surface that feels so good on bare feet!
